Why should I choose New Braunfels to winter?

txmapNew Braunfels is rich with old world traditions and small town appeal. Winter Texans are not only visitors to the community, they become a part of it. There are things to do all winter, and people are anxious to make new friends. At the lowest elevation (623 ft) closest to the coast, New Braunfels is the warmest place in the Hill Country to stay all winter.

When do Winter Texans start migrating?

Hundreds of residents from cold-weather cities move into New Braunfels and Canyon Lake, hoping for a respite from the North's bitter chill from November to March. Y'all come back now.

What is the weather like when I'm there?

Winter doesn't have to be dreary and Winter Texans will be the first to admit it. Our mild winter temperatures allow us to have outdoor activities year-round!

What can I do for free?

Most parks with a variety of hiking and biking trails are free, you can get involved at one of our senior centers, and many Winter Texans spend much of their time working in and for the community.

Where can I volunteer?

New Braunfels welcomes volunteers in several categories including: The Visitors' Center, senior centers, the hospital, the library, schools, churches and the food bank. Contact United Way at (830) 620-7760 for information on over 20 agencies looking for volunteers.

How many people winter in New Braunfels?

Over 3,000 guests from the midwestern states come each year, and every one brings a good story to tell! Each season ends with a Winter Texans reception to thank them for coming to stay.

Is it expensive?

Prices in our area are reasonable. Gas prices are usually about 20 cents cheaper than other areas of the country. Restaurant pricing is very sensible. You can expect reasonable prices in renting a cabin, condo or house for the winter. New Braunfels welcomes tourists, we don't take advantage of them.
