?Six Flags Fiesta Texas is ramping up for another season of Fiesta fun – Texas style.
The San Antonio theme park, which is seasonally operated, sits on about 200 acres of land within an old quarry near the northwest intersection of Loop 1604 and Interstate 10 West.
First opened in March 1992, some recent enhancements to Fiesta Texas include an expanded waterpark and boardwalk.
New for the 2008 season, the park will show off its new roller coaster, Goliath. This roller coaster is a Bolliger and Mabillard designed inverted coaster similar to the “Batman: The Ride” rollercoaster at Six Flags New Orleans.
While Goliath will be the park’s ninth coaster, Six Flags Fiesta Texas goes well beyond thrill rides — it includes a water park, named White Water Bay (renovated in 2006,) and various music and stage shows.
Several shows are presented throughout the day, and on most nights the park closes with an animated laser show projected on the limestone quarry walls and fireworks.
In 2007, Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ show bill was awarded – for the ninth consecutive year – Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Award for “best theme park shows in the country.”
In 2005, Xcelleration, a show featuring professionals from the sports of BMX biking, skateboarding, bungee artists and acrobatics opened at the Zaragoza Theater.
Xcelleration also was awarded an industry accolade, the Big “E” for “Best Sports Show of 2005.”
